Research Paper - ADHD and Nutrition

Image
Alright, so this was a research paper I completed April 2024 for a topic of wellness of my choosing. I selected ADHD and nutrition. I researched the topic for six weeks and this was my final submission for the course. I figured that sharing my research could be helpful to someone else.  The topic I have chosen is nutrition and diet as it relates to health. Specifically, the relation that nutrition plays on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and its symptoms. “Over the past 30 years ADHD has been recognized, assessed, investigated, and treated around the world” (Hinshaw & Scheffler, 2014). There is no secret that artificial ingredients and synthetic colorings have been around for decades. In today’s society, what we consume typically includes both natural and artificial ingredients. “Diet has been an environmental factor of long-standing interest in ADHD” (Pelseer et al., 2020). ADHD, typically more associated with school-aged children, is usually addressed th...

A Child with ADHD

Image
We always knew that our son had ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) even before he went into school. Once he started kindergarten , it was downhill from there. He was overly rambunctious in class which resulted in him having to be moved to half days. It was a constant battle with the school.  We were finally able to get him to see the doctor about it. (That is a whole other problem, seeing a regular doctor who is not specializing in children with ADHD). So we went to his pediatrician. She basically said, 'here choose a medicine you want to put him on.' I went with my mum and we looked at each other and chose Adderall because we have heard of that before.  The first week was looking good, then he began to struggle. So we called the doctor and told her what was going on, she raised him to the next dosage. Alright maybe it just was not enough for him, he has a very fast metabolism. Tried the second dosage, he seemed to be getting a bit worse. We called her ...

The 2021 - 2023 Updates

Image
Alright, so it’s been a while since I have posted anything. Yea I know I am bad at this haha. I guess this should be more of a 2021-2023 update. It was originally the 2022 update but I failed at that too. We will just touch the tip of the events and I might add a post in depth to some of them at some point. (I will link them if I do, don’t worry about clicking around to find specifics). More of a list than pictures for this one but a short interesting life update read.  Let’s begin with 2021 in mid summer.  Our dog London became very sick. We planned on her not making it due to her blood having to be diluted FOUR times to even get results to populate! They think she got into something that was poisonous and was putting her into severe liver failure. We did in home IV and forced food and water down her throat for the weekend. She ended up getting better slowly but, since it’s now 2023, she still has some lasting effects but she is happy and loved.  The husband turned...

New Year & New DECADE Resolutions for 2020

Image
So with the new year, EVERYONE is making resolutions which we all don't keep some if not most. This year I want to try to keep ALL my resolutions. I bought a  weekly planner  to try to keep up with everything. As of right now, it is January 1st. So I am trying to get everything that I have thought about down into the  weekly planner . I have been thinking about everything I want to do but we just do not have the funds for it. So something I cannot write down to accomplish daily/weekly/monthly is to actually pay debt off. I know my husband hates when I talk about money in any aspect but we currently have a house, two vehicles, a couple or so credit cards, and some other loans. So we owe a lot, just use your imagination. My goal is to get at least 2 but hopefully 3 of these paid off. We do have a few that are no interest for 12-18 months but beside the point I want 2-3 of anything paid off. I would love to begin looking for a house to live in until the kids graduate high ...

Speaking at the OB Challenges Conference

Image
So as many of you know, I was asked to guest speak in a medical conference. This conference was about preterm labor and birth as a whole. I was asked by one of the ladies in the hospital staff before I was discharged after having Rosella if I was interested. I said sure that sounds like fun. So we now fast forward a bunch of months and now we are before the holidays. She asks again if I’m still interested. Of course I would love too. I told her I would and I will keep my promise. The beginning of the year I tell her I was able to get the day off work and we are good to go. As the day drew near, and we are about 6-10 weeks away I’m starting to have doubts. Starting to have anxiety about reliving this all over again, see some of the staff that took care of me. I get the email with what she wants me to talk about. Ok that seems simple, just four things. Why I was there and how long with a bit of backstory, positive things I liked and what I wish would have been done differently. So I ...

A Year Later ... After the Ordeal with Rosella's Pregnancy

Image
So we are going to get a bit personal here, so please don't judge, it is hard enough for me to write it but sharing it will be even harder. I ask not for your pity or anything, you do not need to say anything to me about this post, just know this is how I feel.  Rosella is just over 10 months old. It has been a struggle for me here and there with everything that I went to. Being a strong headed person, I never reached out for help. Always told myself it would get better. Has to get better. Have to be strong and healthy and ok for my family. Well was a dead wrong. Not addressing these issues I have been having, it has taken a huge toll on me. So I finally reached out to Rosella's developmental therapist and told her that I think I need some help. I write this feeling like I should not be but mental health is VERY IMPORTANT. And If yo have doubts, always get help. I am pretty sure I have some form of PTSD from the whole pregnancy, birth and NICU experience but I am not a doct...
