Yellowstone & Mount Rushmore Trip

I know this is a late post - about a year late since I just realized I never clicked the button .... but here we are .... August 2015

With a week off of work, Steven and I were unsure what to do. We thought about different things that we could do but nothing stuck. Steven, out of nowhere, said that we should go on a road trip to see Old Faithful. We, well I mean I, packed our bags and we got into the car and left.

We drove up through Flagstaff, over to Santa Fe, where we stayed the night. Then drove up towards Denver. But as we arrived in Raton, NM. we had a nail in the tire and it was loosing air. Since it was Sunday, there was not much open, so we bought a patch and fixed it best we could. We luckily were able to find a Walmart that had a tire center that was open in Trinidad, CO. Put a damper in our trip but we got back on the road and headed to Hot Springs, SD. We did stop at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO.

The next morning we headed thru Custer State Park. We saw some nice buffalo, prairie dogs, livestock and even something from the deer family.  It was a nice, beautiful drive thru the park. After, we headed over to Mount Rushmore then stopped at Jewel Caves on the way out of South Dakota.

We headed into Cody, WY to stay the night before moving onto Yellowstone NP and Old Faithful. However, like us, there were so many other people staying in Cody that at 10pm when we arrived, there was no where to stay. We pretty much called every hotel motel there was to see if they had a vacancy. Luckily, there was a room available at some weird motel.

When morning had come, we got up and headed out to Yellowstone. It was raining a bit but that did not stop us. Unfortunately, we barely missed the geyser as it had just finished and it would not be for about an hour before it went again. We walked around a bit but it was so crowded we did not stay to see it erupt again. And we headed back for Arizona.

Driving down thru Wyoming, we saw the Grand Tetons but did not visit them, We stopped in Salt Lake City, UT for the night. Then headed down thru Zion National Park and Flagstaff, AZ.. Made it home with about 3,000 miles added to the car and 5 days of an amazing adventure.
